1. What does the season of Lent mean to you? Why does the church observe this season every year?
2. What does it mean to be “radically attentive” during the season of Lent? How can we do this? How can we continue being “radically attentive” throughout the year?
3. Why are Jesus’ “Famous Last Words” so significant? Why are anyone’s dying words significant? Has anyone ever shared words with you on their deathbed that have stuck with you?
4. What is the first thing Jesus says after being crucified (Luke 23: 34)? What do you find most striking about this prayer?
5. Why did Jesus strain to say this prayer out loud rather than just silently communicating with the Father?
6. To whom was Jesus speaking when He spoke that prayer?
7. In what way is Jesus our Passover Lamb? (Hint: see John 1: 29)
8. Why do you think Wesley considers Communion a means of grace?
Prayer for the Week:
Almighty God, thank you for loving us so much that you sent your Son to die on a cross to pay the price for our sins that we could never pay ourselves. Thank you for sending Him to save us, not condemn us. Thank you for making a way for us to not be separated from you, but instead have the promise of abundant and eternal live in your very presence. We love you, Lord. Help us to do a better job of showing it. Help us to be racially attentive to your word and your ways, that we might live accordingly through the power of the Holy Spirit. May our lives reflect Jesus for the whole world to see, so that others may be inspired and empowered to receive your grace for themselves. Work in us and through us for the advancement of your kingdom right here on earth. We love you so much, Lord. We pray all of this in the strong name of Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever. Amen.
